Released in theaters on February 18, 2011 to a limited audience, Vanishing On 7th Street is a suspense and horror film directed by Brad Anderson. Starring Hayden Christensen as Luke, Thandie Newton as Rosemary, John Leguizamo as Paul and Jacob Latimore as James, Vanishing On 7th Street is a movie that is based on one of humanities most instinctive fears: the dark. A scary yet thrilling movie, Vanishing On 7th Street starts out in the city of Detroit, Michigan. The residents are all going about their lives when a sudden and completely unexplained blackout brings the city to its knees. When the sun finally does rise, millions of people are missing with only a few remaining. All they see is piles of empty clothing, abandoned cars and shadows that seem to follow them around. Afraid of the dark, a small group of strangers (Christensen, Leguizamo, Newton and Latimore) seek ways to find light and survive the dark. Unexplainably, they are each drawn to a rundown bar where they find each other, a gas filled generator, and enough supplies to last them for a little while. They try to stay close but as darkness descends upon the city they soon discover that there is something dangerous about the darkness and realize that they will have to face it if they ever have a chance of making it through the night. As they try to survive, they are each taken one by one, as they lose the light that they had with them. The only survivor is James who seeks refuge in a church aided by one candle that stays lit all night. He later meets a young girl named Brianna, played by Taylor Groothius, and she shows him her solar powered flashlight that stays on all night and protects them from the darkness as they leave Detroit and make their way to Chicago on horseback.
