VeggieTales: The Toy That Saved Christmas is an animated Christmas movie released in 1996 by Big Idea Productions, directed and written by Phil Vischer and Chris Olsen. The movie follows the story of a group of vegetables who learn the true meaning of Christmas through the journey of an old toy factory owner and his toy-making machine.

The story is set in a town called Dinkletown, where a young girl named Molly sets out to write a letter to Santa Claus, asking for a particular toy: a Buzz-Saw Louie action figure. As Christmas approaches, the town is in a state of panic as stores run out of the toy, and parents are left struggling to find a suitable replacement. Meanwhile, young Junior Asparagus is asked to deliver a message to Santa, but as there is no physical address for him, Junior decides that Santa might be hiding in the North Pole.

In the North Pole, Junior encounters the owner of the toy factory, Mr. Nezzer, who has been struggling to keep the factory afloat. Junior must convince Mr. Nezzer to make some toys for the children, but Mr. Nezzer refuses, insisting that the true meaning of Christmas lies in buying and selling toys. Junior is then given a tour of the factory, where he discovers the Wally P. Nezzer Toy-making machine, which can create toys at an alarming rate.

Mr. Nezzer, who is desperate to make some profits, decides to use the toy-making machine to create a new toy called the "Star of Christmas" and replace the Buzz-Saw Louie toy. Junior, however, discovers that the toy-making machine is not functioning correctly, and toys made by the machine are not safe for children. But before he can warn anyone, Mr. Nezzer puts the Star of Christmas on the market, and it is an instant success.

As Christmas approaches, the town is buzzing with the joy of Christmas, and everyone is excitedly waiting for the new toys. But when children begin to get hurt by the poorly made toys, the town falls into chaos. Junior, along with his friends, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, team up to stop Mr. Nezzer from selling the dangerous toys and find a way to make new toys for the children.

The trio comes up with an idea to use the old toy-making machine that was given to them by the owner of the toy store, who had gone out of business. They create their own toys and distribute them around town to bring back the true spirit of Christmas. In the end, the people of Dinkletown learn a valuable lesson about the real meaning of Christmas, that it's not just about receiving gifts but about giving and spreading love and joy.
