Yeh Ballet is a 2020 Bollywood movie directed by Sooni Taraporevala and produced by Roy Kapur Films. The movie is inspired by two real-life ballet dancers from Mumbai named Nishu and Asif. The movie follows their journey of becoming ballet dancers in a society where traditional dance forms like Bharatnatyam and Kathak are preferred.

The story starts with two boys - Asif (played by Achintya Bose) and Nishu (played by Manish Chauhan) who are from humble backgrounds and are fascinated by dance, even though they come from backgrounds where it is not necessarily encouraged. They accidentally stumble into a dance studio run by a former ballet dancer, Saul Aaron (played by Julian Sands). Saul is initially hesitant to teach them ballet as he believes they are too old to start, but he eventually relents and takes them under his wing.

However, getting trained in ballet comes with its own set of challenges for Asif and Nishu. They face a lot of resistance from their families and communities who believe that ballet is not a respectable dance form for boys. They are bullied by their classmates, called names and are looked down upon as if they are not real men.

Yeh Ballet chronicles the journey of Asif and Nishu as they fight against all these odds to chase their dream of becoming professional ballet dancers. Along the way, they must overcome many obstacles, including injuries, financial difficulties, and social stigma. But they persist, both driven by a deep love for the art of ballet, and a strong desire to prove their worth.

One of the highlights of Yeh Ballet is the dance sequences, which are beautifully choreographed and performed. The movie puts a spotlight on the world of ballet, which is not that well-known in India, and introduces viewers to the elegance and grace of this unique dance form.

The performances by the cast are also noteworthy. Jim Sarbh, who plays the role of a self-absorbed and entitled ballet instructor, is impressive, and Manish and Achintya, who play Nishu and Asif, respectively, deliver excellent performances that are both nuanced and subtle. Sarah Jane Dias, who plays Saul's dance partner, adds charm to the movie.

Along with telling a compelling story of two struggling dancers, Yeh Ballet also offers insightful commentary on social issues like discrimination, social mobility and the struggle of the underdog. It shows how, despite being oppressed in various ways, individuals can achieve their dreams by persisting and by having faith in themselves.

In short, Yeh Ballet is a heartwarming and inspiring movie that offers a fresh perspective on the world of dance, while also offering valuable lessons on perseverance, hard work and pursuing one's passions. It is a must-watch for anyone looking for a feel-good, uplifting tale of triumph against all odds.

Yeh Ballet is a 2020 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.5.
