At the same time, Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) is interrogating the prisoner, Hector Salazar (Vincent Laresca), who has been taken into custody in connection with the Cordilla virus. Tony is trying to find out who Salazar is working for and what they plan to do with the virus. As the clock ticks closer to the deadline, Tony goes to extreme measures to get Salazar to talk.

In another part of the city, Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) is still on the run, trying to avoid capture from CTU. She is working with the terrorists, and Jack is determined to find her.

The tension continues to build throughout the episode as Jack's plan to create a fake Cordilla sample and exchange it for his friend's daughter, who has been kidnapped by the terrorists, becomes more complicated. CTU Director Chappelle is not happy with the plan, and tensions rise between him and Jack. Meanwhile, President Palmer is trying to deal with a reporter who is digging into his past.
