On June 22, 1994, Colombian soccer player Andrés Escobar was murdered in Medellín, Colombia. Many believed his murder was in retaliation for his own goal during a game against the United States in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, which contributed to Colombia's early elimination from the tournament. "The Two Escobars" explores the intertwined stories of Andrés and drug lord Pablo Escobar, as well as the socio-political context in which they lived and died. The episode features interviews with former Colombian soccer players, sportswriters, and journalists, as well as archival footage and recreations of key moments in Andrés's life. The documentary examines the fraught relationship between Colombian soccer and drug trafficking, including allegations that Pablo used the national team as a front for his illegal activities. "The Two Escobars" is a moving and thought-provoking portrait of two men whose lives were shaped by vastly different circumstances, but whose fates were ultimately intertwined.
