Yan Zhi is relieved to discover that the person behind the mastermind who had been targeting Yu'er and him is the yet-unsolved case of a serial killer, Qiu Shi. But the truth doesn't quite relieve Yu'er, who still feels a lingering sorrow over knowing that her mother was responsible for the death of Yan Zhi's mother. Yu'er still believes she owes Yan Zhi a debt of gratitude. When they eventually reach Lingshan City, they are met by a mysterious mountain temple located at the foot of the Lingshan Mountain. The temple is known for its spiritual energy, that provides blessings to whoever visits it.

Yan Zhi and Yu'er are still searching for the River Map, and the temple is a likely place to find it. They inquire about the temple's caretaker and discover that he is a master in the art of Dao magic named "Xiahou Hui." The master caretaker of the spiritual temple is vigilant and keeps the mountain temple safe from troublemakers. He also runs a food stall where Yan Zhi and Yu'er can dine on some exquisite meals. Yan Zhi and Yu'er ask him some queries about the River Map, but he does not answer their questions. However, he encourages them to stay the night in a nearby inn.

While they are still in Lingshan, a sorcerer named Gui Di comes looking for them. He is the former pupil of Yu'er's father, who wants to capture and own a river spirit. Gui Di got disowned when he defied his master's teachings and walked down the path of dark magic. He discovered that the river spirit, Yi Fuling, was living as a human and is determined to harness her powers. He tracks down Yan Zhi and Yu'er, captures them, and then magically manages to find the river spirit.

Gui Di wants to use the river spirit's power to increase his magical abilities, as he aims to become the strongest sorcerer in the land. Yan Zhi and Yu'er battle with Gui Di over their freedom but can hardly stand up to him, who is in possession of the river spirit. Gui Di is too powerful for Yan Zhi, Yu'er and Xiaohou Hui, but then out of the blue, the river spirit starts to rebel against him. Gui Di is losing control of the river spirit, and a mass of spirit qi erupts and fills the temple.

In the end, the qi unleashes a hidden magical entity from one of the mountain aids. This entity is an old master, who was tasked by Xuan Tian Shangdi (the Jade Emperor) to hide the River Map in the cave awaiting the arrival of a young lady. Gui Di captures the river spirit, which evokes the spirit of Yi Fuling's parents. However, in an unlikely twist of fate, Yi Fuling's parents had been waiting for the right moment to retrieve their daughter and extract her from the cursed river. What follows is gripping drama and suspense as the entities of the mountain and the river gear up to wage war against Gui Di.
