Ep 4. Day Game

Angel Beats! is an anime series that follows the afterlife of Otonashi, a young man who finds himself in a strange school-like world after his death. In Season 1 episode 4 titled "Day Game," the members of the Afterlife Battlefront are looking for a way to help students pass on to the next life and move on from their regrets.

The episode begins with Otonashi and Hinata on a mission to find a baseball team in order to boost morale among the students. Disappointed, Hinata offers to challenge Angel to a rematch, but Angel declines, saying that the game was just for fun and not worth taking so seriously.

Meanwhile, Otonashi spends some time with Yui, a cheerful girl who is grateful to be in the afterlife because she can finally live out her dreams of performing in a rock band. However, Yui's happiness is short-lived, as she soon discovers that she is slowly losing her hearing. She becomes angry and resentful, believing that life is unfair and that she should have been given more time to pursue her dreams.

Otonashi tries to comfort Yui, but she lashes out at him, saying that he can't understand her pain because he doesn't have any regrets. Otonashi is taken aback by this, as he realizes that he has no memory of his past life or any regrets to speak of. He begins to wonder if this is why he is stuck in the afterlife.

Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of Angel's true nature as she interacts with her own NPC teammates. It is clear that she is starting to question her role in the afterlife and whether or not the system is truly just. However, she keeps these thoughts to herself and continues to carry out her duties as the enforcer of the afterlife.

Overall, "Day Game" is an episode that explores some of the deeper themes of Angel Beats! while still maintaining a lighthearted tone. The baseball game serves as a fun distraction from the characters' existential crises, but it also highlights the tension between the Afterlife Battlefront and Angel.
