Ep 4. Anastasia

In the fourth episode of Boardwalk Empire season one, titled "Anastasia," tensions continue to rise between Atlantic City's political and criminal factions. Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) finds himself at odds with Chalky White (Michael K. Williams), as the latter seeks to protect his own interests and maintain his role as a key player in the city's African-American community.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) begins to assert himself as a force to be reckoned with, as he forms a partnership with the ruthless and violent Al Capone (Stephen Graham). Jimmy's relationship with his estranged father, the Commodore (Dabney Coleman), also comes to a head as the two men confront one another over their own competing ambitions.

In the midst of all this turmoil, a new character arrives on the scene - a mysterious woman named Anastasia (Margarita Levieva), who seems to have connections to both Nucky and Jimmy. As the various factions scramble to determine her motivations and allegiances, Anastasia proves herself to be a shrewd and dangerous player in the world of Atlantic City.

As with all episodes of Boardwalk Empire, "Anastasia" is marked by its top-notch writing, direction, and performances. The series' exploration of the violent and corrupt world of early 20th century America is always thought-provoking and engrossing, and this particular episode is no exception. With its multiple plot threads and complex characters, "Anastasia" is a must-watch installment of this acclaimed HBO drama.
