Ep 3. ...and the Bag's in the River

Walter White continues to be pulled deeper into the criminal underworld in the third episode of Breaking Bad's first season, titled "...and the Bag's in the River." The episode picks up immediately after the end of the previous one, with Walter having just strangled a drug dealer to death in a fit of rage and panic.

The rest of the episode deals with Walter's guilt over what he's done, which leads him to develop a strange relationship with a fly that's found its way into the laboratory where they're cooking meth. Walter becomes obsessed with catching the fly, convinced that it's somehow a symbol of his guilt and a reminder of the terrible thing he's done.

Meanwhile, Walter's brother-in-law, Hank, who is a DEA agent, is hot on the trail of the drug dealer that Walter killed. He becomes increasingly suspicious of Jesse, who seems to be involved in the drug trade in some way. Hank also continues to be haunted by his experience in a shootout with some drug dealers, which has left him with a severe case of PTSD.

As the episode comes to a close, Walter is finally able to catch the fly and dispose of it, thus symbolically freeing himself from his guilt. But he knows that he can never truly be free from the consequences of his actions, and that he's now firmly entrenched in the criminal underworld.
