Walter White is a high school chemistry teacher who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. He is struggling to provide for his family and decides to turn to cooking and selling methamphetamine, partnering with Jesse Pinkman, a former student. In season 2 episode 13 titled "ABQ," the story hits a major turning point as the consequences of their illegal activities come crashing down upon them.
The episode kicks off with Walt and Jesse dealing with the aftermath of a plane crash that occurred in the previous episode. The crash is believed to have been caused by a mid-air collision between two planes, which were flying directly above Albuquerque, where Walt and Jesse operate. It's not immediately clear why the planes crashed or how they could have caused it, but Walt and Jesse realize that their actions may have had a hand in it.
As the investigation into the crash unfolds, Walt and Jesse become increasingly paranoid, afraid that their meth production has somehow caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. They try to carry on with business as usual, but the guilt is gnawing at them.
Meanwhile, Walt's brother-in-law Hank, a DEA agent, is also investigating the crash. He discovers that one of the planes was carrying the CEO of a company called Wayfarer 515, which has connections to Walt. Hank's findings lead him to believe that Walt is somehow involved in the crash, though he has no concrete proof yet.
The episode follows each character as they struggle with their own guilt and anxiety. Walt is dealing with his cancer diagnosis and the knowledge that his actions may have led to a tragedy. Jesse is mourning the death of his girlfriend, who was killed by a ex-junkie that he helped reform. Hank is dealing with the aftermath of the crash investigation, and is frustrated by his inability to make any headway in the case.
As the episode progresses, the pieces of the puzzle start to come together. It is revealed that the cause of the crash was a combination of factors, including a malfunctioning air traffic controller and a critical systems failure on one of the planes. However, the final twist is revealed in the last moments of the episode, which sets up the events of the next season.
"ABQ" is a tense and dramatic episode that forces each character to face the consequences of their actions. It's a pivotal moment in the series that sets up the clashes between Walt and Hank that will define the rest of the show. The writing is tight and the performances are top notch, making it one of the standout episodes of the series.
