Bride & Prejudice is a reality TV show that aired on the FYI network back in 2017, hosted by well-known relationship and family therapist Dr. Karen Ruskin. The show revolves around five couples who are about to get married but are facing opposition from their friends and family members.

The show features an interesting premise, as the title suggests. In the same vein as Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," the show tackles the idea of bringing couples from different backgrounds, cultures, and traditions together, which often leads to conflicts and tension. The relationships are put to the test as the couples, along with their skeptical family members, move in together for three weeks before the big day. They must navigate the challenges of their relationship and deal with other issues like finances, careers and cultural differences. The show is meant to be a test to see how true their love is, and if they can overcome the prejudices and biases of their closest friends and family.

Aside from the couples themselves, the show features a group of experts, including psychologist and marriage and family therapist Dr. Karen Ruskin, who works to help the couples navigate the challenges they face by providing them with the tools and resources they need to address their problems proactively.

One of the couples profiled is Mauricio Sanchez and his fiancée, Galina, who come from vastly different backgrounds. Mauricio is a Mexican-American who hails from a traditional Roman Catholic family. Galina is Russian, and her family is Russian-Ukrainian Orthodox, which establishes a difficult beginning for the couple.

Mauricio’s devout Catholic family practices service and charity work in their community as part of their faith. Meanwhile, Galina's family is much more reserved and traditional in their practices. They pride themselves on being reserved and private, which is dramatically different from what Mauricio's family is used to. In addition to the differences in religious practices, Mauricio's family members are often overwhelmed by Galina's dominant personality, the constant chatter of her native Russian language, and the strong flavors of Russian cuisine.

Gus Murray and his fiancee, Lauren, also faced significant backlash over their relationship on the show. Gus' parents were concerned about the couple's age difference, with Gus being ten years older than Lauren. They were also worried about Lauren's commitment to their relationship because of her previous relationship history. However, Gus' parents were happy to learn that Lauren was ready to be a faithful partner and mother to their future children.

The show's dramatic highlight revolves around the wedding day, where the couple's family members finally meet each other. Despite the significant differences, everyone tries to put their differences aside and come together to celebrate the couple's love.

This is where the expertise of Dr. Karen Ruskin comes into play, as she works closely with the families to help them bridge the cultural gaps and overcome the prejudices that stood in the way of their involvement in the couple's relationship.

In the end, the show is all about relationships and family dynamics. It's an exploration of what happens when we shatter expectations, step outside of our comfort zones and come together with people who may share very little in common with us. The premise of the show speaks to people who want to see what happens when love takes two people down a journey that involves growth, change, and transformation.

Overall, Bride & Prejudice delivers the drama and the rom-com stories that appeal to people who like reality TV shows with a hint of comedy/tragedy that deliver a fair-share of excitement and heartbreak. The show may be predictable at times, but viewers will appreciate how the show is all about overcoming cultural, religious, racial and age prejudices to find love in the most unexpected places.

Bride & Prejudice is a series that is currently running and has 2 seasons (16 episodes). The series first aired on March 15, 2016.
