Two best friends, Aisling and Danielle, live together in Dublin and have just finished college. They both feel the pressure of having to "adult" and face the realities of post-graduate life. Aisling tries to make ends meet by working two low-paying jobs and going out every night, while Danielle struggles to keep her job at a law firm and maintain a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend in America.
In the first episode, Aisling convinces Danielle to go out with her and their friends for "one drink" after work, but it turns into a night of heavy partying and drinking. The next morning, they wake up hungover and late for work. Aisling barely manages to make it on time, while Danielle decides to skip work altogether. Aisling's boss, who is also her landlord, catches her coming into work late and gives her a warning.
Meanwhile, Danielle spends the day at home, feeling guilty about missing work and worried about her relationship with her boyfriend. She confides in Aisling, who brushes off her concerns and encourages her to come out for another night of partying instead. The two friends head out to a club, where Aisling drinks too much and ends up causing a scene. Danielle tries to intervene, but Aisling lashes out at her.
The episode ends with Danielle heading home alone, feeling disillusioned and unsure about her future. Aisling stays out with their friends, seemingly oblivious to the consequences of her actions.
Overall, the first episode of Can't Cope, Won't Cope sets up the central conflict of the series: the struggle to balance youth and responsibility. Aisling and Danielle want to have fun and enjoy their twenties, but they also have to deal with the practicalities of life after college. The episode also hints at the tension between the two friends, as Aisling's reckless behavior begins to put a strain on their relationship.
