After escaping from a cult in the Amazon with his wife and two children, Ken Thompson (Greg Davies) returns home to the UK where he finds it difficult to readjust to his old life. In this episode, titled "Ken at Work," Ken gets a job at a pest control company, much to the disdain of his father-in-law, Tony (Kenworthy), who thinks he should be striving for something better.
Ken struggles to adapt to his new job, which includes getting rid of rats and other critters, but he is determined to prove himself. However, his unorthodox methods lead to a string of mishaps, including a rat infestation in a nursing home where one of the residents, Beattie (Samantha Spiro), takes a liking to him.
Meanwhile, Rachel (Tamla Kari) struggles to balance her work life with taking care of her children. When Ken offers to lend a hand, she initially rejects his help but eventually relents, leading to some humorous moments as Ken tries to keep up with the demands of looking after two young children.
Also, Dylan (Tyger Drew-Honey) is forced to confront his crush on Zoe (Esther Smith) when her boyfriend comes to stay with them. As he tries to navigate his feelings, he finds himself getting into some awkward situations.
Throughout the episode, Ken's unique perspective on life clashes with the conventional views of those around him, leading to some hilarious and uncomfortable moments. As he tries to find his place in society, he must also confront the demons from his past in the cult, which threaten to resurface and destabilize his already precarious position.
Overall, "Ken at Work" is a funny and heartwarming episode that explores themes of identity, family, and the struggle to fit in. With its talented cast and sharp writing, Cuckoo Season 2 continues to deliver on its promise of quality entertainment.
