DIVE!! is a sports anime series that follows the diving club of Shibuki High School. The show delves into the personal lives of the club members as they tackle their problems and challenges while striving towards their shared goal: to qualify for the Olympics.
In season 1 episode 1, titled "DIVE TO BLUE," the show introduces us to the main character, Tomoki Sakai, a second-year high school student who has a deep passion for diving. Tomoki is an energetic and lively character who loves nothing more than the feeling of flying through the air and landing perfectly in the water. He dreams of becoming an Olympic diver in the future.
Tomoki is part of the diving club, and the story begins with him and his clubmates training at the local swimming pool. As they practice, Tomoki and his best friend, Yoichi Fujitani, are approached by an older diver, Ryuji Maruyama, who is a professional diver. He notices Tomoki's natural talent and invites him and Yoichi to join his diving team, Mizuki Diving Club.
Tomoki is excited to have the opportunity to train with professionals, but his fellow club members are not too keen on the idea. Tomoki's coach, Kayoko Asaki, is especially against the idea since she worries that Tomoki may be getting involved with a dangerous crowd. Despite her worries, Tomoki eventually decides to join Mizuki Diving Club to pursue his dreams of becoming an Olympic diver.
Tomoki's new teammates are not as welcoming as he thought they would be. They are a competitive bunch, and Tomoki has a hard time fitting in. They consistently outperform him in practice, and Tomoki struggles to keep up. However, he refuses to give up, and with a little help from his friends, he manages to improve his skills and earn the respect of his new team members.
The episode ends with Tomoki's first competition with Mizuki Diving Club. He is excited to finally compete at the national level and show off his skills. However, things don't go as planned when he experiences a mental block and fails to complete his dive. It's a devastating experience for Tomoki, who was confident in his abilities. But his coach, Maruyama, and his teammates help him get back on his feet and motivate him to continue training and working on his technique.
