The long-awaited return of Doctor Who marked the beginning of the second season with the episode titled "The Christmas Invasion". The episode picks up right where the previous season left off, with the TARDIS crashing into the Rose Tyler's family home. But as soon as they land, the Doctor remains in a comatose state, leaving Rose to fend for herself as they face a new danger on planet Earth.

The arrival of the Sycorax spaceship sends the world into a frenzy as they demand that Earth surrender or face obliteration. With the Doctor out of commission, Rose turns to the newly regenerated Tenth Doctor for help who finds himself unable to function properly. As the world leaders try to negotiate a deal with the extraterrestrial threat, it becomes clear that they are not going to honor any deal they make.

Rose, Mickey, and Harriet Jones, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Britain, must come up with a plan to save the planet and rescue the Doctor. In the meantime, the Doctor finds himself in an epic battle of wills against the Sycorax leader and must face the ultimate test of strength.

As expected from Doctor Who, the episode is chock-full of action, adventure and wit. The introduction of the Tenth Doctor brings back the fun and excitement that made the show so popular in the first place, and the writing does not disappoint. The episode also touches upon some deeper themes, such as the power of unity and determination in the face of adversity.

David Tennant bursts onto the scene as the Tenth Doctor and is an absolute delight to watch. His portrayal brings a fresh energy to the character and adds depth to his persona. His chemistry with Billie Piper's Rose Tyler is also a highlight of the episode, as the two characters navigate their evolving relationship.

The supporting cast also delivers some impressive performances, especially Harriet Jones, played by Penelope Wilton, who shines as the tough-as-nails leader of Britain. Camille Coduri and Noel Clarke as Rose's mom and Mickey respectively bring some much-needed levity to the episode and offer a relatable perspective to the proceedings.

The special effects are a definite improvement from the first season, with the Sycorax spaceship looking particularly impressive. The fight scenes are also well choreographed and add to the edge-of-your-seat excitement.

Overall, "The Christmas Invasion" is a triumphant return for Doctor Who and sets the stage for the rest of the season. It delivers on all fronts, from the writing to the acting to the special effects. Fans of the show will undoubtedly be pleased with the outcome, and newcomers will find plenty to enjoy as well.
