Ep 1. Smith and Jones

The episode opens with the Doctor having just regenerated and taking his new appearance in his stride. He then sets off on his travels, only to end up at the Royal Hope Hospital in London. Here he meets medical student Martha Jones who is doing her job as a trainee doctor. As the hospital is transported to the Moon, everyone finds out that they are actually caught in the middle of an intergalactic war between the Judoon and a rogue alien called The Plasmavore.

The Plasmavore, posing as a human, starts to absorb the life force of patients. The Judoon, working as space police, quickly round up everyone in the hospital and hunt down The Plasmavore. With the help of Martha, the Doctor manages to evade the Judoon and track down The Plasmavore before she can harm more patients.

Throughout the episode, we see the Doctor and Martha’s relationship start to develop, with Martha getting caught up in the adventure and proving to be a valuable companion. The Doctor even gives Martha a key to the TARDIS, inviting her to join him on his travels.

The episode ends with the hospital back on earth and the Doctor saying farewell to Martha. However, as he steps into the TARDIS, he realizes that Martha has followed him and is now aboard the ship. The episode closes with the Doctor grinning and stating, “You’re not Martha Jones, you’re Martha Jones and who knows what you might become.”

Overall, “Smith and Jones” is an action-packed episode that introduces us to a new companion and sets the tone for the rest of the season.
