Ep 8. Cold War

The Doctor takes his newest companion, Clara, on her first trip to a submarine in 1983 during the height of the Cold War. The TARDIS materializes in the middle of a compartment in the Soviet submarine, Red October, and without much warning, the Doctor and Clara find themselves in the middle of a dangerous and high-tension situation.

The crew of the submarine is carrying a potentially dangerous weapon known as a "blockade" missile, which they have been ordered by their superiors to use in the event of an attack by tanks, planes, or boats. However, the missile has been transported under less-than-ideal conditions and was not properly secured, allowing it to come loose and become dangerous to the entire crew.

The Doctor soon realizes that the submarine has unknowingly picked up a dangerous stowaway, an Ice Warrior from Mars that was believed to be extinct. The Ice Warrior is awakened after centuries of hibernation and is very displeased with his "captors." As the Doctor attempts to negotiate with Skaldak and prevent a catastrophic event, Clara and the crew fight for their survival and try to disable the weapons before it's too late. This episode is full of intense and thrilling action, as well as emotional moments that bring the characters closer together.
