Don't Forget the Driver season 1 episode 4, titled "Episode 4", follows coach driver Peter Green as he navigates the challenges of his peculiar job in the seaside town of Bognor Regis.

As the series' themes of loneliness and isolation continue to deepen, this episode sees Peter struggling to come to terms with some of the unexpected changes he's faced in his life as of late. He's grappling with the recent departure of his daughter Kayla, who moved away to live with her new boyfriend, as well as attempting to forge a connection with his estranged mother, who he's currently caring for.

Amidst all of this, Peter finds himself drawn into an unlikely friendship with a Syrian asylum seeker named Sami. When Peter is asked to take Sami and a few other refugees to Brighton for a day trip, he initially balks at the idea, warning them of the potential dangers they might encounter along the way. But as the group sets off, Peter begins to see Sami in a new light – not as a foreigner but as someone who's just like him, searching for a sense of belonging in an often confusing and disorienting world.

Meanwhile, back in Bognor Regis, Peter's mother is struggling with her own issues of aging and abandonment. As she gradually opens up to him about her past, Peter starts to see his mother in a new light – not as the distant and dismissive figure he's always known, but as a fellow traveler on the road of life.

Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of the small, everyday moments that make up Peter's life – the quiet conversations with his co-workers, the tedious bus routes, the occasional attempt at romance – all of which conspire to create a palpable sense of yearning and melancholy. Yet despite the many challenges he faces, Peter soldiers on, finding moments of connection and unexpected joy in the most unlikely of places.

As in previous episodes, the writing and acting on display here are top-notch, capturing the complex emotions and nuanced relationships that define our day-to-day existence. With its mixture of humor, pathos, and poignant insights into the human condition, "Episode 4" is yet another standout installment of this quietly affecting and deeply human series.
