Therapy Patrol is the seventh episode of the first season of Doom Patrol. The series follows the story of a group of people who, after undergoing traumatic experiences that left them physically and emotionally scarred, are brought together by Dr. Niles Caulder, otherwise known as The Chief. Each member of the Doom Patrol has unique abilities and powers, but their stories are interconnected and their struggles are shared. This episode focuses on the group's attempt to heal and overcome their personal issues through therapy.

As Therapy Patrol opens, the Doom Patrol members are seen in pairs discussing their emotional struggles and current issues with a therapist, Dr. Harrison. The sessions are designed to elicit and explore deep-seated emotions, with the aim of helping the characters come to terms with their difficult pasts. Each pairing represents different unique personalities and relationship issues. Larry and Rita are polar opposites, with Larry being stoic and closed off while Rita is overemotional and vulnerable. Vic and Cliff represent a father-son dynamic where Cliff struggles to see Vic as a mature adult and relies on being protective. Jane and her alter egos represent how fragmented her psyche is, unable to pinpoint her identity. The dialogue is genuinely therapeutic, and it is clear the characters are making progress towards healing.

However, things begin to unravel as the characters' quirks and insecurities emerge and the therapy sessions become more intense. Jane struggles to contain her alter egos and lashes out aggressively at the rest of the group, leading to a heated and emotional confrontation. It becomes obvious that the Doom Patrol's issues are more complex than just typical therapy can handle. Despite this, they have a breakthrough in the episode when they come to realise that they have formed a special bond which will help them in their journey to healing.

Therapy Patrol is a standout episode of Doom Patrol, with a fresh perspective on the typical superhero genre. It explores deep themes of trauma and healing in a really meaningful way, taking the time to let the characters develop and form close relationships with one another. Rather than simply using the psychological aspect as a gimmick, the show tackles these issues by weaving them into the story. It's an emotional rollercoaster to watch, but also cathartic in its own way. The ending of the episode and the cathartic experience of each character realizing they are not alone and having sympathetic ear to share their sorrows with is truly touching.

Overall, Therapy Patrol is an excellent episode that highlights the depth and complexity of the Doom Patrol's story. The show takes advantage of the ensemble cast to explore different themes, making it relatable and allowing for rich interactions between the characters. Themed around trust-building and bonding, the characters leave therapy with a greater understanding of each other and are now on the path to healing with a growing sense of self-awareness and an understanding that they were chosen for a reason. The episode ends with a sense of hope, suggesting that the Doom Patrol may one day be able to overcome their traumas and lead normal lives. For fans of the show, Therapy Patrol is a must-watch episode that has received plenty of praise for its unique storytelling and emotional depth.
