In season 9 episode 4 of Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet titled "Don't Cry She-Wolf," viewers follow Dr. Michelle Oakley, a renowned veterinarian practicing in the remote wilds of the Yukon, as she cares for a variety of animals.
The episode opens with Dr. Oakley receiving a distress call from a local wildlife sanctuary about a pregnant she-wolf that has been found trapped in a snare. The sanctuary staff explain that they were able to release her, but she appears to be in distress and is not moving properly. Dr. Oakley quickly packs her bags and sets off to the sanctuary.
Upon her arrival, Dr. Oakley examines the wolf and determines that she is suffering from a broken leg. She administers pain medication and carefully begins setting the fracture. The sanctuary staff help to keep the wolf calm during the procedure, and Dr. Oakley finishes the job quickly. However, the real challenge is still ahead: getting the she-wolf back on her feet and back into the wild.
In order to rehab the wolf's leg and strengthen it, Dr. Oakley recommends hydrotherapy. She and the sanctuary staff work together to build a makeshift rehabilitation pool in the sanctuary's backyard and begin the long process of getting the she-wolf mobile again. As the weeks go by, viewers get to see the wolf's slow progress as she learns to walk and run with her newly-healed leg.
While the wolf is the focus of the episode, Dr. Oakley also tends to a variety of other animals. She examines a pair of baby lynx that have been abandoned by their mother and are struggling to survive. With the help of the sanctuary, Dr. Oakley is able to successfully feed and care for the lynx until they are strong enough to be released into the wild. She also diagnoses a sick bison in a nearby herd and comes up with a treatment plan to get it back on its feet.
Throughout the episode, viewers get to see Dr. Oakley's compassionate nature and deep commitment to all animals - wild or domestic. She works tirelessly to make sure that the she-wolf, the lynx, and the bison all receive the best possible care, and her efforts pay off in the end as each animal is able to return to its natural habitat.
"Don't Cry She-Wolf" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the incredible work of Dr. Michelle Oakley and the dedicated staff at a local wildlife sanctuary. Through their efforts, they are able to help countless animals in need and preserve the unique ecosystem of the Yukon.
