Epic Trails is an adventure travel show that takes the audience on a journey to explore some of the most stunning and remote areas of the world. In season 2, episode 5, the host, Eric Hanson explores the country of Sweden to discover some of its hidden gems.

The episode starts off with a breathtaking view of the Swedish wilderness as Eric lands in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. He then meets up with his local guide, Jesper who takes him on a scenic road trip to a UNESCO World Heritage site - Skogskyrkogården. Located on the outskirts of Stockholm, this unique cemetery is a testament to modernist architecture and design. Designed by Erik Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, the cemetery features a series of chapels, crematoriums, and outdoor spaces that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

From there, Eric and Jesper venture into the Swedish countryside to explore some of its wildlife reserves and lakes. Their first stop is at the Tyresta National Park, located just 20 km south-east of Stockholm. This park, which covers an area of over 5,000 hectares, is home to some of the most significant stands of old-growth forest in southern Sweden. Eric and Jesper go on a guided walk through the park to see its ancient trees, wildflowers, and wildlife, including moose, deer, and birds.

After their walk, Eric and Jesper stop at a traditional Swedish cabin overlooking a lake. Here, they try their hand at fishing for some delicious fresh trout. Jesper shows Eric how to prepare and cook the trout over an open fire, using all-natural ingredients, including herbs and berries found in the surrounding forest.

Next, Eric and Jesper head north to the town of Kiruna, located in the Arctic Circle. This mining town is home to one of the world's largest iron ore deposits. Eric and Jesper visit the world-famous Kiruna Iron Mine, which is being relocated due to its expansion. Eric explores the subterranean tunnels and caverns of the mine and learns about the mining process and its impact on the environment.

After their mining excursion, Eric and Jesper head to the nearby Jukkasjärvi, home to the famous Icehotel. This hotel is not only made of ice but offers a unique Arctic experience. Eric learns about the ice sculpting process and tries his own hand at it, before spending the night in one of the hotel's ice rooms.

The next day, Eric and Jesper take a snowmobile tour into the vast wilderness to visit some of Sweden's indigenous Sami people. The Sami are the traditional reindeer herders of northern Scandinavia and have been living in this region for thousands of years. Eric learns about their culture and way of life, including their use of reindeer for transportation, clothing, and food.

The episode ends with Eric experiencing a traditional Swedish sauna and ice bath. He learns about the history and significance of this ritual and how it benefits the mind and body. Eric reflects on the beauty and diversity of Sweden and encourages viewers to explore this stunning country themselves.

In conclusion, Epic Trails season 2, episode 5, is a fascinating and insightful journey through the varied landscape and culture of Sweden. Eric Hanson's infectious enthusiasm and sense of adventure make this episode of Epic Trails a must-watch for anyone who loves travel and the outdoors.
