Escape to the Country season 22 episode 30 takes us on a journey to the East Anglian county of Suffolk, a beautiful place known for its rolling countryside, stunning coastline, charming market towns, and picturesque villages.
In this episode, presenter Sonali Shah helps a couple who are in search of their dream country home in Suffolk. Our first couple, Ben and Sophie, are a young pair of professionals who have been living in a city for several years. They have decided it’s the right time for them to leave their urban lifestyle behind and settle in a cozy country cottage.
Our intrepid presenter first meets Ben and Sophie at their current home, where they discuss what they’re looking for in their new abode. They ideally want a property with character, space for their two cats, and a garden for growing their produce.
With her wealth of experience in the property market, Sonali gets to work determining what properties match their requirements. The first property they view is a charming period estate set in six acres of land just outside a tranquil Suffolk village. Built-in the 16th century, it has beautifully maintained English gardens, a working vegetable garden, and even a pond that is perfect for wildlife watching. The property boasts four bedrooms and three reception rooms, which provides them with plenty of space to live a comfortable country life.
Next up, they visit a delightful Grade II listed cottage located in the heart of another Suffolk village. The property features exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace, and a stylish modern kitchen that’s perfect for hosting friends and family. Although the character of this cottage is well-preserved, a rear extension adds some additional living space. The property has two bedrooms, making it perfect for Ben and Sophie's needs, with a spacious living room for cat’s to play.
Finally, Sonali takes them to a unique but charming conversion of a water tower that’s sure to tick all of their boxes. The ground floor has an open plan living, dining, and kitchen space, and the first floor provides two good-sized bedrooms-one with a fantastic view! The water tower has a spacious and private garden but, unlike the other two properties, no substantial land to maintain.
Throughout the episode, there’s plenty of discussion about the local area, its history, and attractions. Sonali introduces the couple to one of her favorite local cafes, where they taste some of the delicious local produce and discuss what life might be like in Suffolk. They also explore the nearby market town of Bury St Edmunds, where they take in the sights, sounds and learn about its rich history.
Escape to the Country season 22 episode 30 offers a fascinating insight into the delights of Suffolk's real estate market and provides a glimpse into life beyond the big cities. With Sonali Shah’s expert guidance and the couple's enthusiasm to craft their dream country life, it is yet another entertaining and informative episode in this long-running series.
