  • November 7, 2011

Robson Green continues his world tour through the fishing-rich country of Brazil. In this episode, he starts out by exploring the bustling metropolis of São Paulo, which sits on the banks of the Tietê River. With the help of local guides, Robson tries his hand at catching some of the river’s famous peacock bass. He learns about the challenges that face the river, including pollution, and sees how local organizations are working to clean it up.

Moving on from São Paulo, Robson heads north to the town of Barcelos, which is widely regarded as the peacock bass capital of the world. Here, he meets up with a colorful local character named Sisi, who shows him around the town’s markets, where he marvels at the variety of fresh fish available. Sisi also takes Robson fishing on the Rio Negro, a vast tributary of the Amazon River. Despite the challenging conditions of high water levels and heavy rain, Robson manages to catch some impressive peacock bass.

Next, Robson travels to the heart of the Amazon, to the remote village of Tutóia. Here, he meets indigenous tribespeople who rely on fishing to survive. He fishes with them using traditional nets and learns how fishing provides both food and income. Robson tries his luck at catching the prehistoric-looking arapaima, which is known for its impressive size. With the help of his guides, Robson eventually lands a huge arapaima, which provides a thrilling end to his time in Tutóia.

Finally, Robson travels to the state of Bahia, on Brazil's northeastern coast, where he joins a group of fishermen who use a unique and innovative technique to catch tuna. They use kites to fly their bait out to sea, then wait for the tuna to bite. Robson helps to set up and launch the kites, then watches as the fishermen reel in their catch. While the fishing is successful, it's not without its challenges, as the kites sometimes get tangled or lost. Despite this, Robson comes away from the experience impressed with the fishermen's ingenuity and resolve.

Throughout the episode, Robson is awed by Brazil's varied and beautiful landscapes, from the hustle and bustle of São Paulo to the vast expanses of the Amazon rainforest. He meets friendly locals who share his passion for fishing, learns about the challenges they face, and sees firsthand the vital role that fishing plays in the lives of many Brazilians. With its mix of stunning scenery and exciting fishing action, this episode of Extreme Fishing with Robson Green is not to be missed.
