The show "Farmhouse Facelift" follows designer and renovation expert, Carolyn Wilbrink, as she helps families transform old and outdated farmhouses into modern and functional homes. In season 2 episode 9, titled "Home Is Where the Farm Is," Carolyn is tasked with transforming a 150-year-old farmhouse in rural Ontario into a comfortable and stylish family home.
The farmhouse is located on a 45-acre property and has been in the family for generations. While the family is deeply attached to their family home, they have outgrown its layout and are in desperate need of more space and functionality. The farmhouse is full of outdated features, including old appliances, a dated kitchen, and worn-out flooring. Moreover, there is no proper mudroom for the family's farm gear, and the laundry room is inadequate.
Carolyn's first challenge is to create a functional mudroom that can handle the heavy farm gear of the family. She proposes adding a custom mudroom with plenty of storage, coat hooks, and cubbies for boots and shoes. Additionally, the laundry room is redesigned with brand new machines, storage cabinets, and a folding station. The hope is to create a functional space for the family to clean up and store their farm equipment.
Next, Carolyn focuses on reimagining the family's dining area and kitchen. The previous kitchen was cramped, outdated, and had limited counter space. Carolyn proposes an open-concept kitchen and dining area to create a more fluid living and entertaining space for the family. She adds a large island with a sink, plenty of counterspace, and a custom-built pantry to maximize storage.
For the living room, Carolyn is focused on making the space cozy and inviting. She transforms the space by adding a custom-built fireplace and built-in shelves. Carolyn recommends adding a feature wall with barn boards to bring warmth and character to the space. She also focuses on adding accent pieces and soft furnishings that provide warmth and texture to the room.
Finally, Carolyn turns her attention towards the master suite. She redesigns the suite, using rustic woods and reclaimed materials to create a cozy but sophisticated space. She adds a large glass shower and a luxurious freestanding tub, making the bathroom a true oasis for the homeowners. Carolyn also focuses on creating plenty of storage space in the suite to accommodate the homeowners' needs.
Throughout the episode, Carolyn works tirelessly to create a functional and stylish home for the family. With each room transformation, she brings warmth and character to the farmhouse while incorporating modern conveniences that the homeowners need. Ultimately, the family is thrilled with the end result, and Carolyn's design expertise has transformed their family home into a functional and inviting farmhouse.
