- May 22, 2019
In season 4 episode 2 of Greek Tales For Kids, we learn about the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, one of the most famous and tragic love stories in Greek mythology.
Orpheus was a skilled musician, known to be able to charm even the most savage beasts with his lyre. He fell deeply in love with a woman named Eurydice, and they soon married. However, their happiness was short-lived, as Eurydice was bitten by a snake and died shortly after the wedding.
Grieving and heartbroken, Orpheus decided to travel to the underworld to try and bring Eurydice back to life. He played his lyre and sang so beautifully that even the gods and goddesses were moved by his sorrow. Eventually, he was granted permission to take Eurydice back to the land of the living, but there was a catch. He had to lead her out of the underworld without looking back at her until they reached the sunlight.
Orpheus eagerly set out with Eurydice by his side, but his love and excitement began to get the better of him. He couldn't resist looking back at her, and in doing so, he lost her forever. Eurydice was pulled back into the underworld, and Orpheus was left alone once again.
This tragic tale has been told and retold for thousands of years, and it continues to captivate new generations. The episode explores the themes of love, loss, and the lengths that we are willing to go to in order to be with the ones that we love. It also introduces young viewers to some of the most iconic figures of Greek mythology, from Orpheus himself to the powerful gods and goddesses who rule the world.
