In "Timeless," the eleventh episode of season four of Highlander: The Series, our protagonist Duncan MacLeod finds himself torn between two eras as he attempts to protect a young woman from a deadly threat.
The episode begins with Duncan making a visit to his friend and mortal Watcher, Joe Dawson. Joe is busy organizing old Watcher files when he comes across a mysterious entry for a woman named Anne Wheeler, who was apparently assigned to a Highlander in the 1800s, but disappeared without a trace. Intrigued, Joe tracks down Anne's descendants and discovers that her granddaughter, also named Anne, is currently living in the present day.
When Duncan goes to meet Anne, he quickly realizes that she's in danger from an Immortal who has been hunting her family for generations. The Immortal, James Horton, has a vendetta against Duncan and is determined to use Anne as leverage to force him to fight.
Duncan tries to protect Anne as best he can, but when she's kidnapped by Horton, he realizes that the only way to save her is to follow them into the past. With the help of a fellow Immortal named Darius, who has the ability to time travel, Duncan finds himself back in 18th century France, where he must face off against Horton in a battle that will determine Anne's fate.
As Duncan fights to save Anne and escape the past, he also grapples with the weight of his immortality and the cost of the centuries of violence he has witnessed and participated in. Meanwhile, Joe struggles with his own role as a Watcher, questioning whether it's ethical to monitor and record the lives of Immortals without their knowledge or consent.
"Timeless" is a thrilling and emotionally resonant episode of Highlander: The Series that explores themes of morality, mortality, and the toll of a never-ending battle. Fans of the series will be captivated by the time travel storyline and the intense showdown between Duncan and Horton, while newcomers will find a compelling entry point into this beloved sci-fi classic.
