The episode starts with a flashback of Rika's past life where she was living in a small village with her parents. She used to love the village's annual festival where they celebrated the sacrifice of a person to please the gods. However, her happiness shattered when her parents became the sacrifice for that year's festival. From that day onwards, Rika kept on reliving her death in different timelines, hoping to break free from this vicious cycle.
In the present timeline, Rika wakes up to an unfamiliar world. She finds herself in a world where her parents are alive, and she never knew about Hinamizawa's dark past. Initially, Rika takes comfort in this new world, but soon realizes that something is amiss. She notices that her friends' personalities are drastically different from what she remembers. Satoko, who used to be her best friend, now treats her with hostility, and Rena is nowhere to be found. Rika also notices that the annual festival, which used to be held on June 21st, has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Rika's skepticism turns into horror when she learns that the head of the Sonozaki family has been replaced by Teppei Houjou, Satoko's abusive uncle. Teppei, who was absent from the previous timelines, is now given the power to dictate the festival's proceedings, and Rika fears that Hinamizawa's dark past will repeat itself under his guidance.
Rika tries to make sense of this new timeline by confiding in her trusted friend, Hanyuu. Hanyuu, who has observed hundreds of timelines, confirms Rika's suspicions that the world has been altered to prevent her from sabotaging the festival. Hanyuu warns Rika that this timeline is the most dangerous one yet, and if she fails to break free from this world, she will be stuck in this loop forever.
Rika decides to take matters into her own hands and consults with one of the Sonozaki family's enemies, Ooishi. Ooishi, who was earlier portrayed as an antagonist, reveals that he was part of the faction that tried to stop Hinamizawa's annual festival. Ooishi and his team had gathered evidence to implicate the Sonozaki family in the murders, but they were silenced before they could act upon it.
Ooishi provides Rika with a lead to prove that Teppei is unfit to lead the festival. Rika and her friends sneak into Teppei's mansion to gather evidence, but they are caught red-handed. Teppei, who is infuriated by their intrusion, orders his subordinates to punish them severely. Rika and her friends are tortured, but they manage to make a narrow escape with the evidence.
Rika, who is determined to put an end to the curse, exposes Teppei's misdeeds in front of the entire village. The villagers are shocked to learn about Teppei's true nature, and they depose him from his position. Rika's efforts pay off, and the festival is canceled this year. Rika and her friends celebrate their victory, but they know that their fight is far from over.
The episode ends on a tense note, as Rika realizes that her enemies will stop at nothing to protect their secrets. She knows that in the next timeline, her adversaries will be better prepared, and it will be even more difficult to break free. The episode raises questions about the price of taking the right path and leaving the familiar behind. It also showcases the power of persistence and determination in the face of insurmountable odds.
