HoriMiya Season 1 Episode 1 A Tiny Happenstance

In the first episode of HoriMiya, entitled "A Tiny Happenstance," we are introduced to the two titular characters, Izumi Miyamura and Kyoko Hori. At first glance, Miyamura appears to be a quiet, nerdy type, with piercings and long hair that he keeps tied back in a ponytail. Hori, on the other hand, is popular and outgoing, with a reputation as a straight-A student and a member of the school's swim team.

As the episode begins, Hori is rushing to get to school, leaving her younger brother Souta to fend for himself at home. Meanwhile, Miyamura is also on his way to school, but he stops to rescue a stray kitten that's fallen into a drain. This seemingly insignificant act sets off a chain of events that will bring Miyamura and Hori together.

When Miyamura arrives at school, he accidentally bumps into Hori in the hallway, and her books go flying everywhere. Though he's initially embarrassed, he's surprised when Hori doesn't seem to recognize him as one of her classmates. As it turns out, Miyamura has a completely different persona outside of school - he's covered in tattoos, and wears his hair down instead of in its typical ponytail.

As the day goes on, Hori and Miyamura keep running into each other around school. They both seem vaguely familiar to each other, but are unable to place where they might have met before. It's not until Hori returns home to find that Miyamura has been hanging out with Souta, and the three of them start talking, that they finally realize they've been in the same class for months.

Despite their initial awkwardness, Hori and Miyamura start to bond over their shared experiences. Hori reveals that she's been taking care of Souta by herself ever since their parents got divorced, and Miyamura confides that he used to be bullied in middle school because of his appearance. They both feel like they have to keep up appearances at school in order to fit in, but they start to see that there's more to each other than meets the eye.

As the episode draws to a close, Miyamura and Hori share a quiet moment together on the rooftop of the school. They talk about their dreams for the future, and Hori opens up to Miyamura in a way she hasn't to anyone else. Miyamura is surprised by how much she trusts him already, but he's also grateful for the chance to get to know her better.

"A Tiny Happenstance" does a great job of setting up the world of HoriMiya, and introducing us to its two main characters. The animation is fantastic, with a bright color palette and lots of little details that add to the overall charm of the show. The relationship between Hori and Miyamura is sweet and understated, and it's clear that there's a lot more to explore there as the series goes on. Overall, this is a promising start to what looks like a great show.
