We’re in for a treat on this episode of Hot Rod Garage! The guys have got plans to upgrade the brakes on their Roadkill El Camino project with Wilwood brakes. They start by removing the old drum brakes and replacing them with a set of shiny new Wilwood disc brakes, which will provide better braking performance and reliability for the El Camino.
But that’s not all – the rest of the episode is dedicated to sand casting hot rod parts. Tony and Lucky take a trip to a local foundry to learn how to make their own cast aluminum parts. They show us the process from start to finish, which involves creating a sand mold, melting the aluminum, and pouring it into the mold. We get to see the guys in action as they pour the molten aluminum and then wait for it to cool before breaking open the mold to reveal the finished part.
The guys also talk about the benefits of sand casting, such as the ability to create unique and custom parts, as well as the cost savings compared to buying parts off the shelf. Plus, it’s just plain fun to make your own parts! They walk us through the steps and give lots of tips and advice for anyone interested in trying this technique themselves.
Back in the garage, the Wilwood brakes are installed and tested on the El Camino. The guys take it for a spin and are thrilled with the results – the car stops on a dime! They also show us how to properly bed in the new brake pads to ensure maximum braking performance.
Overall, this is a great episode for anyone interested in performance upgrades and custom parts. It’s always satisfying to see a project come together, and this episode delivers that in spades. Whether you’re a seasoned gearhead or just getting started, you’re sure to learn something new from Tony and Lucky’s adventures in hot rodding.
