In House of Cards season 2 episode 2, "Chapter 15," Francis Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) maneuvers his way into becoming Vice President of the United States. With the help of his wife, Claire (Robin Wright), Francis manipulates his way through the political landscape of Washington D.C., taking advantage of any opportunity that presents itself.
The episode begins with Francis and Claire discussing their plans for the upcoming election. Claire wants to run a non-profit organization, but Francis has his eyes set on the Vice Presidency. Meanwhile, the President is dealing with a military crisis in the Middle East, leaving Francis with an opportunity to make a move.
Francis approaches the President's Chief of Staff, Linda Vasquez (Sakina Jaffrey), with a proposition: he will help the President deal with the crisis if he is made Vice President. Vasquez is hesitant, but she eventually agrees to push the idea to the President.
As Francis waits for the President's decision, he also continues to plot against his enemies, both in Congress and in his own party. He blackmails a Congressman who is threatening to derail the Vice Presidential nomination, and he also works to undermine the Speaker of the House, who is considering a run for the Presidency.
Meanwhile, Claire deals with her own issues as she tries to secure funding for her non-profit organization. She approaches a wealthy donor, but things don't go as planned when the donor demands something in return.
As the episode comes to a close, Francis receives word that he has been selected as the Vice President. He and Claire celebrate their victory, but Francis soon realizes that he has only just begun his political journey.
Overall, House of Cards season 2 episode 2 continues the intricate and layered storytelling that made the first season so compelling. Kevin Spacey delivers another powerful performance as the conniving Francis Underwood, and the supporting cast shines as well. The political machinations are intense and thrilling, and viewers are sure to be on the edge of their seats as the season unfolds.
