Frank and Claire are still struggling to keep their grip on the Oval Office as scandals continue to pile up. In "Chapter 58" of House of Cards season 5, we see the power couple employing desperate tactics to maintain their power and control.

The episode starts with Frank using his trademark Southern charm to win over a new governor, who is reluctant to support his program. After a lot of political maneuvering, the governor finally agrees to back Frank up, only to realize later that he has been manipulated into doing so. Meanwhile, Claire is doing everything in her power to keep her nomination as the Ambassador to the UN from being confirmed by the Senate, as this will force her to give up her title of First Lady.

As the episode progresses, we see Frank and Claire's relationship becoming even more strained, with each trying to outdo the other in their power plays. Claire's decision to nominate Jane Davis as her replacement as Vice-President doesn't go well with Frank, who feels threatened by Davis's growing influence on Claire. Davis, who is a savvy negotiator, offers to help Frank in return for political favors, sparking off a series of tense interactions between the couple.

Frank's attempt to strengthen his power alliance with China, by getting them to partner with ICO in return for a huge investment, comes under scrutiny when doubts arise about the authenticity of ICO's claims. Claire becomes tired of Frank's constant scheming and decides to take matters into her own hands by authorizing a controversial military action, which could have far-reaching consequences. The episode ends with Frank realizing that he has been outmaneuvered by Claire, and the couple facing yet another crisis, which threatens to unravel all they have worked for.

Overall, "Chapter 58" is a tense and fast-paced episode that highlights the lengths to which Frank and Claire will go to maintain their power. It also showcases the growing tension in their relationship, as they realize that they are slowly drifting apart. The performances of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as Frank and Claire are exceptional, bringing to life the complexities of their characters and the nuances of their actions. The episode is a must-watch for fans of the show, as it sets up the stage for the thrilling climax of the season.
