Indian Matchmaking is a reality show that aired on Netflix in 2020. This show revolves around the cultural practice of arranged marriages in India. The show follows the stories of several participants from across the globe and how they undergo the process of match-making with the help of Sima Taparia, a well-known matchmaker based in Mumbai, popularly known as 'Sima aunty.'

Sima Taparia is a self-proclaimed 'arranged marriage consultant' and is well-known for her professional matchmaking services. She introduces us to her clients based in India as well as abroad, looking for a perfect partner. Each one of them has their own set of preferences and expectations when it comes to finding the right partner, and Sima Taparia works accordingly to match them up. With her years of experience and knowledge of Indian culture and customs, she guides her clients through the arranged marriage process, which involves examining many factors including family background, education, caste, and horoscope matching.

One of the participants, Aparna Shewakramani, is a proud businesswoman who is very particular about the qualities she is looking for in a life partner. She is not easily impressed and is criticized by Sima Taparia for being 'stubborn.' Aparna comes from a wealthy Indian family living in the United States and has high expectations for her future partner. After several attempts, Sima Taparia finally matches her with a potential partner, but Aparna's indecisiveness leads to complications.

Another client, Nadia Jagessar, is a New York-based aspiring influencer who is looking for someone who can keep up with her fast-paced lifestyle. She is put off by the men suggested by Sima Taparia and feels that they do not live up to her expectations. Despite this, Sima Taparia navigates through the challenges and finally finds a match that suits her needs.

The show also features several male participants, such as Akshay, a young entrepreneur based in India, looking for a traditional partner who can cook and take care of his family. Pradhyuman, a Mumbai-based jewelry designer, is a fashionable young man who is looking for a partner who can understand his unique personality and share his eccentric interests.

One of the most interesting aspects of the show is how Sima Taparia works tirelessly to match her clients up, but also how the cultural norms surrounding arranged marriages can create tensions and frustrations for the participants. For instance, the traditional practice of horoscope matching plays a big role in the process of arranged marriages, which is something that some of the participants have trouble understanding, considering it lacks scientific evidence.

Overall, the show is an engaging and informative series that gives viewers an insight into the world of arranged marriages in India. It explores the expectations and reservations of clients as well as the methodology used by matchmakers like Sima Taparia to bring together suitable partners. It also shines a light on the practice of arranged marriages and how it continues to remain an integral part of Indian culture, despite the changing times.

Indian Matchmaking is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (24 episodes). The series first aired on July 16, 2020.
