Ep 5. Smell Ya Later

Eve continues her search for assassin Villanelle in the latest episode of Killing Eve season 2 - Smell Ya Later. As we saw previously in the season, Eve has been dismissed from MI6 and is now resorting to private investigation tactics to track Villanelle. Meanwhile, Villanelle is working for a wealthy, manipulative tech mogul who is interested in her skills as a killer.

Smell Ya Later starts off with Villanelle carrying out a job which is quickly botched due to a mistake made by her unsuspecting victim. This leads to her being reprimanded by her new employer, who is not willing to tolerate any slip-ups. Unbeknownst to Villanelle, Eve is hot on her trail and has managed to locate her temporary base of operations. Villanelle, on the other hand, seems to be aware of Eve's presence and is toying with her by sending cryptic messages.

The episode introduces a new character in the form of Carolyn's daughter, Geraldine. Carolyn, who is Eve's former boss at MI6, enlists her daughter's help in decrypting files related to Villanelle. While it is not clear at first why Carolyn involves her daughter, it becomes evident towards the end of the episode that the files contain information about a former protégé of Carolyn's. This revelation leads to an intriguing confrontation between Carolyn and Eve.

Meanwhile, Villanelle is tasked with carrying out another hit, this time on a tech engineer who is working on a project that Villanelle's employer wants to get their hands on. Villanelle, who is not a fan of her new boss, gets creative with the assassination and comes up with a plan that is both gruesome and clever. As always, Villanelle's actions are carried out with her usual flair and eccentricity.

One of the standout moments of the episode is a scene between Villanelle and a young girl who recognizes her from her previous assassination. Villanelle, who is usually quite cold and detached, shows a surprising amount of empathy towards the child and offers her a poignant piece of advice. It's a small moment, but one that humanizes the character in a way we haven't seen before.

As the episode reaches its conclusion, we see Eve and Villanelle's paths finally intersecting once again. The two engage in a tense confrontation that leaves the audience hanging on the edge of their seats. The final scene sets up what promises to be an explosive upcoming episode, as the two adversaries finally come face to face after much anticipation.

All in all, Smell Ya Later is a fantastic episode that manages to balance plot development, character growth and, of course, thrilling action. It's a testament to the show's expert writing and terrific performances from its cast that it manages to keep viewers on the edge of their seats week after week. Killing Eve season 2 is shaping up to be a worthy successor to the acclaimed first season and Smell Ya Later is definitely one of the standout episodes so far.
