Janet is excited to start her new job at the prestigious art gallery, but her parents are less than thrilled when they find out her position is merely an unpaid internship. Appa is especially concerned about the practicality of Janet's decision, worrying that without a regular salary, she won't be able to support herself. Meanwhile, Jung is facing his own employment troubles as he struggles to find a job that pays enough to help him move out of the basement apartment he shares with Shannon.
As Janet begins her internship, she quickly realizes that the position comes with more responsibility than she anticipated. Her boss is demanding and critical, constantly pushing Janet to work harder and be more creative. Despite these challenges, Janet is determined to prove herself and make a name for herself in the art world.
At the same time, Appa struggles to understand why Janet is so passionate about art and why she would willingly take on an unpaid internship. He feels that Janet's decision is impractical and worries that it could lead to financial difficulties down the road. Although Umma tries to explain Janet's perspective to him, Appa remains unconvinced.
Meanwhile, Jung continues to search for a job that pays enough to support him and allows him to move out of the basement apartment. When he doesn't get a call back from a restaurant where he applied, he starts to feel hopeless and frustrated. Shannon tries to offer him some encouragement, but Jung is starting to lose faith in his ability to succeed.
As Janet becomes more deeply involved in her art gallery internship, she begins to feel overwhelmed by the demands of her boss. She is constantly working long hours and sacrificing her own personal life to try and make a good impression. Janet worries that her hard work isn't paying off when her boss is still critical of her performance, but she doesn't give up.
Back at the convenience store, Appa is struggling to deal with the realization that Janet is growing up and pursuing her own dreams. He struggles to let go of his expectations for Janet's career and to understand her passion for art.
Jung finally receives a call back from the restaurant, but the position pays less than he had hoped for. Even though he's disappointed, he decides to take the job and use it as a stepping stone to something better.
In the end, Janet's hard work pays off when her boss offers her a paid position at the gallery. Appa is thrilled that Janet will finally have a regular paycheck and that her internship wasn't a waste of time. He starts to see the value of pursuing one's passion and begins to understand Janet's perspective. With Jung's new job and Janet's success at the gallery, the family is able to celebrate their individual accomplishments and the growth that comes with pursuing one's dreams.
