Kim's Convenience is a Canadian television sitcom that premiered on CBC in 2016. The show is about an immigrant Korean family, the Kims, who own a convenience store in Toronto. Season 1 episode 3, titled "Ddong Chim," focuses on the family's relationship with their old friends, the Parks.

The episode opens with the Kim family busy at their convenience store, and Mr. and Mrs. Kim, played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Jean Yoon, are discussing their old friends, the Parks, who are coming over for dinner that evening. The Parks, who used to be close with the Kims, have become distant and they are all curious as to why.

Appa, played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, is excited to see his old friend Mr. Park but Umma, played by Jean Yoon, is worried about Mrs. Park's judgements. Umma and Appa have been invited to a dinner party at the Parks the following night, and Umma feels anxious about fitting in with the other guests at Mr. and Mrs. Park's more affluent suburban home.

Meanwhile, their son Jung, played by Simu Liu, who is estranged from his father, is trying to get a job. He heads to the car dealership where Mrs. Park works as a saleswoman to apply for a position. There he awkwardly runs into Mrs. Park who he hasn't seen since he dropped out of school and left home years before.

Back at the store, Janet, played by Andrea Bang, is trying to study for her photography class but keeps getting interrupted by customers. One of the customers, a Korean man who is trying to bond with Appa, asks him for a "ddong chim," which is a prank that involves poking someone's butt with two fingers. Appa is taken aback and angry, as he feels the customer is being disrespectful to him and Koreans in general. Appa decides to prank the man back and hilarity ensues.

As the evening wears on, the Parks arrive and Mr. Kim greets his old friend Mr. Park, played by David Rossetti, excitedly. However, tensions start to arise when Umma starts commenting on Mrs. Park's looks and choice of wine. Appa tries to diffuse the situation but ends up making it worse by engaging in a heated argument with Mrs. Park about the merits of Korean vs. Western food.

Meanwhile, at the dealership, Jung comes clean to Mrs. Park about dropping out of school and apologizes for the pain he has caused his family. Mrs. Park forgives him and helps him get a job at the dealership.

Back at the dinner party, things are not going well, and Janet tries to make her own Korean food to smooth things over. However, she burns the food, causing more tension, and the evening ends in disaster.
