Kim's Convenience season 3 episode 5 titled "Army Spoon" is a delightful episode that showcases the awkwardness of first dates. The cold winter weather has settled in, and everyone is feeling the blues. Janet tells her parents about her date, but Appa is worried that the guy might be sketchy. Mr. Kim's anxiety gets worse when he sees the guy arriving at the store with a tattoo.

Meanwhile, Jung is keen on finding a new place to live. His apartment is a mess, and the heater doesn't even work. He attempts to convince Kimchee to move in with him, but Kimchee reminds Jung about his friendship with Shannon, who happens to be the owner of the building. This makes things complicated.

Through sheer luck, the Kims find out that Jung's former boss is willing to sell the apartment complex that they are currently renting. Appa has the idea that they should buy the apartment and get into the real estate business. Ki-Woong comes through with an offering to lend Appa and Uma money to buy the property. With the help of Janet and Jung, they negotiate the purchase price, but Mr. Kim's bargaining tactics do not go as planned. The Kims now have a landlord who is very strict about cleaning up after pets, and Janet is worried that her cat, Tiger, will have to go—will he?

Back to Janet's first date with her new boyfriend, Raj. The parents meet Raj, and Appa is suspicious of him. Raj's tattoos make him look like a shady character. Mr. Kim's skepticism makes the conversation awkward, and this only makes matters worse. The date is not going well, and even Umma agrees. Janet feels embarrassed by her parents' behavior and goes to the washroom to call her friends. She is surprised when Raj joins her and finds her friends to be pretty cool. Raj realizes that Janet comes from a tight-knit family and decides to leave them to sort out their issues.

Jung is still looking for new accommodations. He reaches out to Shannon and asks her out for a drink. They bond over their love for basketball, and Jung even helps mend a broken fence in the parking lot. Kimchee is not pleased with Jung's new friendship with Shannon and advises him to be careful. With no other options on the horizon, Jung is heartbroken when he learns that Shannon is in a relationship.

The episode ends on a high note with the family at home in their living room, enjoying each other's company. Janet says that she is happy and thanks her parents for being supportive. Mr. Kim gives Janet a Korean Army Spoon, a gesture that warms her heart.

Overall, "Army Spoon" is a delightful episode with some great moments. It captures the essence of family life, love, and relationships in a very relatable way. The show is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys comedy-dramas that portray real-life situations.
