Ep 2. The Lone Coffin

In episode 2 of season 1 of Kingdom of the Mummies, entitled "The Lone Coffin," the team of archaeologists and scientists continues to excavate the tombs in the ancient city of Saqqara, located just south of Cairo, Egypt. Their mission is to uncover and study the intricately preserved mummies of high-ranking officials and wealthy individuals who lived during the New Kingdom period, approximately 3,500 years ago.

The episode begins with one of the team members, Dr. Ramadan Hussein, examining a mysterious and unique coffin found within one of the tombs. Unlike the other coffins, this one has no inscriptions or markings on it, causing the team to wonder who it might belong to and why it lacks any identifying features. Dr. Hussein carefully examines the coffin and discovers a small scarab beetle inside, which could potentially hold clues to help identify the deceased.

Meanwhile, another team member, Dr. Sarah Parcak, uses satellite imaging to survey and map out the entire site, which spans over 140 acres. She hopes that this technology will help them locate any other tombs or burial sites that have yet to be discovered and excavated.

The team encounters several challenges throughout the episode, including unexpected rain and flooding inside one of the tombs, and the delicate process of removing fragile and delicate objects from the tombs without damaging them.

As they continue to explore and study the tombs, the team learns more about the practices and beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt. They discover that many of the mummies were buried with objects and offerings that were meant to provide them with comfort and sustenance in the afterlife, such as food, clothing, jewelry, and even pets.

Despite the many difficulties they encounter, the team remains determined to uncover the secrets of the Kingdom of the Mummies and to uncover new and exciting insights into the lives of the people of ancient Egypt.
