Lorraine Kelly's Big Fat Challenge is a British documentary-based reality series focusing on one of the heaviest families in the United Kingdom. The creator and host of the show is Lorraine Kelly, a Scottish journalist who also works as a news presenter and an actress. Big Fat Challenge is the story of the Chawner family of Blackburn, Lancashire, England - mother Audrey, father Phil, and daughters Emma and Sam. They were thrust into the spotlight in 2009 when Emma made an unsuccessful audition to make it onto the British version of X-Factor. At a combined weight of 92 stone, 1288 pounds in American conversion, and living on state stipends, they were categorized as one of the biggest and laziest families in England. Lorraine Kelly decided to help them and record their progress in the six episode Big Fat Challenge. The first installment introduced viewers to the entire family, who were put through rigorous physical exams. It was learned in this premiere episode that father Phil's health was so poor that he only had years left on his life. The next episodes split the focus as Sam and Emma went off to weight-loss camp while their parents stayed at home to work on their health. The girls returned home from to find out their mom wasn't taking her dieting seriously. This led to a confrontation as all the Chawner women refused to take serious measures to stay healthy and caused Audrey to be admitted to the hospital. In the last episode of the first series it was revealed the family lost a total of 14 stone - nearly 200 pounds. A second series of Big Fat Challenge focused on getting the Chawner family employed as well as continuing their healthy practices. Lorraine Kelly's Big Fat Challenge premiered on January 12, 2010 on the UK's Biography Channel and also aired in Australia and New Zealand.
