Ep 1. The City of the Great Pit

In the first episode of MADE IN ABYSS season 1 titled "The City of the Great Pit," we are introduced to a fantastical world called "The Abyss." This world is made up of a deep, dark chasm inhabited by strange creatures and filled with ancient relics. We follow the young orphan girl, Riko, as she embarks on a dangerous mission to dive deep down into the Abyss in order to find her mother who is a famed explorer.

While Riko's fellow orphans scavenge the surface, Riko spends her time studying the relics and dreaming of following her mother's footsteps. Her world is turned upside down when she discovers a mysterious robot boy who has seemingly fallen from the heavens. Riko takes the boy to her mentor, Lyza, who was also Riko's mother's closest colleague. With the help of the robot boy, named Reg, they are able to decrypt a message from Lyza that leads them to search for a hidden entrance into the Abyss.

Once they reach the edge of the great pit, they gear up to begin their journey down. The Abyss is divided into layers or "levels," and as they descend, the area becomes increasingly dangerous. They must be careful not to fall victim to the different creatures and hazards of each level. As they enter the first layer, they are greeted by a large group of creatures that resemble small rabbit-like creatures, but have the ability to shoot out poisonous quills.

Despite being well-trained, Riko and Reg quickly realize that the creatures they encounter are unlike any they've faced before. The two partners work together, using their respective strengths to fight back and escape. They continue on their journey until they reach an incredibly dark and terrifying portion of the Abyss, known as the "Second Layer." As they make their descent, they come across a terrifying monster that threatens their lives.

"The City of the Great Pit" not only introduces viewers to the unique world of The Abyss, but also sets the stage for an epic adventure. Viewers are left wondering what fate awaits Riko and Reg as they journey deeper into the mysterious chasm. The episode embodies themes of friendship, survival and overcoming challenges, making it a gripping adventure for audiences of all ages.
