In Metalocalypse season 4 episode 8, titled Dethvanity, the members of the death metal band, Dethklok, are faced with a new challenge. The episode opens with the band learning that their music has inspired a new trend- "brutal and grotesque" beauty. Fans of the band are now flocking to plastic surgeons, tattoo artists and beauty salons to achieve the band's look. This newfound fame isn't just limited to fans, even regular people are now trying to attain a look that's "metal".

The band is initially pleased to hear this news, but soon find out that their fans' actions are causing chaos. People are getting hurt, operations are going wrong and a new black market has emerged where people can buy illegal merchandise that promises to make them look like the band members. The news reports are filled with images of people with botched surgeries and strange tattoos, all in the name of metal.

The band realizes that what they have created has become something they never intended. They have become an obsession and people are willing to go to any lengths to emulate them. In response, the band decides to undertake a new project- create an instructional video that will teach people how to attain the "metal" look without resorting to dangerous means.

The instructional video is hilarious and features the band members giving tips on how to achieve the perfect haircut, the perfect tattoos, and the perfect wardrobe. The video is a hit, and soon people are no longer getting hurt in their quest to look metal. Instead, they are following the band's advice and are achieving their desired look without hurting themselves.

Dethklok's effort in making the video succeeds, and the episode ends with a montage of fans of all ages, races, and genders transforming themselves into their favorite band members. Dethvanity is a powerful lesson in how a band's influence can impact not only their music but their image and fans. The episode is a subtle commentary on the power of subcultures and the lengths people will go to belong.

Overall, Dethvanity is an excellent episode that highlights the absurdity of the metal subculture but at the same time celebrates it. It is an excellent blend of humor and social commentary, and the reception of the band's instructional video is the perfect payoff that ties everything together. The episode is an excellent addition to the Metalocalypse series, and fans of the show will surely enjoy it.
