Brian Bishop, known as a 'gentle giant', was shot and killed in a shoot-out with armed robber Colin Richards as Richards returned to a secret spot in Frinton-on-Sea where he had stashed cash stolen from multiple post offices along the coastline. Bishop's partner, Mervyn Fairweather, was shot in the groin but survived.
