Ginko, the wandering Mushi-shi, comes across a village where the sun rises unusually early. He discovers that the village is cursed by a rare type of Mushi known as the Sunrise Serpent. The Sunrise Serpent feeds on the sun's energy and causes it to rise early, resulting in vegetation drying out and eventually dying. Ginko meets with the village elder, who explains that the Sunrise Serpent first appeared after a young blacksmith attempted to forge a sword out of a piece of Mushi metal.

Ginko investigates the blacksmith's work and discovers that the metal is actually a piece of living Mushi. The blacksmith had unknowingly trapped the Sunrise Serpent inside the blade, and as a result, the Mushi began to feed on the sun's energy. Ginko tells the blacksmith the truth, and the blacksmith feels guilt for causing harm to the village.

Ginko devises a plan to get rid of the Sunrise Serpent without harming it. He sets up a system to capture it as it feeds on the sun's energy, and then safely bury it underground where it can no longer harm the village. The plan works, and the village returns to its normal cycle of sunrise and vegetation growth.

During his time in the village, Ginko also meets a young girl named Tanyu who possesses a unique ability to write down the stories of the Mushi. She explains to Ginko that the stories are like a record of the Mushi's existence, and as such, they should be preserved for future generations. Tanyu is hesitant to continue writing the stories as she feels that they are in danger of being lost forever, but Ginko encourages her to continue, telling her that they are important for the preservation of knowledge.

As Ginko prepares to leave the village, Tanyu presents him with a book containing all of her stories about the Mushi. Ginko thanks her and promises to protect the stories, telling her that they will be useful to other Mushi-shi in the future.

Sunrise Serpent is a beautiful and poignant episode of Mushi-Shi. It explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the importance of preserving knowledge. The Sunrise Serpent itself is a fascinating concept and is brought to life with stunning visuals and hauntingly beautiful music. It is an episode that truly captures the essence of what makes Mushi-Shi such a unique and captivating show.
