Ep 2. Chanel & Shannon

My Last Days is a documentary series that tells the inspiring stories of real people living with terminal illnesses, giving them a platform to share their experiences and wisdom with the world. Each episode features interviews with the featured individual and their loved ones, as well as footage of how they're spending their remaining time on earth.

In season 3 episode 2, we meet Chanel and Shannon, two friends who are both fighting different types of cancer. Chanel is a mother and wife who found out she had a rare form of breast cancer while she was pregnant with her third child. Despite undergoing a mastectomy and chemotherapy, the cancer has spread to her brain and spine. Shannon, on the other hand, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 22 and has been living with the disease for over a decade. She's endured countless surgeries and treatments, but the cancer has now spread to her spine and lungs.

Despite their grim prognoses, Chanel and Shannon both have a strong spirit and a desire to make the most of their time left. Chanel is determined to leave a legacy for her children and has started a non-profit organization to raise awareness of her rare form of cancer. She also wants to help other cancer patients feel less alone by sharing her own experiences and providing resources and support. Shannon, meanwhile, is focused on living in the moment and finding joy wherever she can. She shares her love of karaoke with her friends and family, and also takes up painting as a new hobby.

Throughout the episode, we see Chanel and Shannon go about their daily lives and spend time with their loved ones. We meet Chanel's husband and children, who are all coping with the reality of losing their wife and mother. Chanel's eldest daughter is especially resilient and mature, often checking in on her mom and offering words of encouragement. Shannon's boyfriend Travis is a constant source of support and love, and her parents are also by her side as she faces this latest challenge.

One of the most moving scenes in the episode is when Chanel and Shannon meet for the first time, after having corresponded through social media. The two women immediately bond over their shared experiences and the challenges they've faced, finding comfort in each other's understanding. They also share a love of dance, and we see them busting a move together in Chanel's living room as their loved ones cheer them on.

As with all episodes of My Last Days, Chanel and Shannon's stories aren't just about their illnesses, but about the beauty of human connection and the resilience of the human spirit. Despite facing unimaginable hardships, these two women are living life to the fullest and finding joy wherever they can. Their stories are a testament to the power of love, friendship, and hope in the face of the unknown.
