As someone who was raised in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, Julia Haart is on a mission to redefine what life can look like for herself and her family. In episode 7 of My Unorthodox Life, titled "Camp Aron," Julia takes her daughter Miriam to spend a few weeks in the Catskills at a summer camp designed specifically for kids from Orthodox families who are transitioning out of the community.

For Julia, this is a highly emotional experience. She herself never went to summer camp as a child since it was considered "not religious enough" by the community. Now, as she drops Miriam off at Camp Aron, she is reminded of just how different her own upbringing was from that of her children. But she is also filled with hope for what this experience could mean for Miriam.

At first, Miriam seems hesitant and homesick. She struggles with the lack of structure and routine that she is used to, and is uncomfortable around the other kids who come from such different backgrounds. But over time, she begins to find her footing. She makes friends, tries new activities like water-skiing and zip-lining, and learns to let loose and have fun in a way that she never has before.

Julia, of course, is not content to simply drop Miriam off and go home. She decides to stay in the area for a few weeks, renting a cabin nearby so that she can be close to her daughter and also spend some time focusing on her own work. She meets up with her team to discuss the upcoming launch of her shoe line, but struggles to stay focused on the business side of things when she is so emotionally invested in Miriam's experience at camp.

One highlight of Julia's time in the Catskills is a visit from her son Aron, who comes up to spend a few days with his sister and mother. Aron is still orthodox and part of the community, so Julia is thrilled to see him and to have him connect with Miriam in a way that they don't always get to do back in New York City.

As the weeks go by, Miriam becomes more and more comfortable at camp. She even starts to take on a bit of a leadership role, helping some of the younger kids who are struggling to adjust. Julia is proud of her daughter and thrilled to see her thriving in this new environment. But she is also nervous about what will happen when Miriam comes back home. Will she be able to maintain this newfound sense of independence and confidence?

In some ways, "Camp Aron" is a difficult episode to watch. It's hard to see the pain and confusion that Miriam is experiencing as she navigates this new world. But it's also incredibly heartwarming to see the love and support that Julia and her family offer her, even as they themselves are still figuring out how to navigate their own transitions.

Overall, this episode is a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. It reminds us that even in the face of immense challenges, we have the capacity to grow and change and build new lives for ourselves.
