Detective Andy Sipowicz is the lead on a case where a teenager named Eugene is found dead in an abandoned building. Eugene's mother reveals to the detectives that her son was gay and involved in prostitution. As Sipowicz and his partner, Detective Diane Russell, interview potential suspects, they encounter resistance from the LGBTQ+ community who believe the NYPD is not doing enough to protect them.
Meanwhile, Detective Greg Medavoy is investigating a case involving a woman named Janice Licalsi, who killed her mob boss father in a previous season. Licalsi escaped prosecution for the crime by agreeing to testify against her associates, but now a new witness has come forward with incriminating evidence. Medavoy must convince Licalsi to cooperate with the district attorney's office or risk going back to prison.
As the investigations continue, tensions rise within the police department as officers are not sure who they can trust. The truth about both cases is out there, but will the detectives be able to handle it?
