In season 1 episode 3 of the hit show Oz titled "God's Chillin'," tensions continue to simmer and alliances form within the walls of Emerald City, the experimental unit within the fictional Oswald State Correctional Facility.

The episode opens with inmate Miguel Alvarez (Kirk Acevedo) serving as translator for the prison's chaplain, Jeremiah Cloutier (Luke Perry) as they visit the unit's Muslim inmates. The two men clash over their differing religious beliefs and their past history - it turns out the two used to be friends before Cloutier turned his back on Alvarez. This encounter sets the stage for much of the episode's central conflict - the ongoing struggle between the prison's rival factions.

Meanwhile, intelligent and manipulative prisoner Ryan O'Reily (Dean Winters) is plotting his revenge against the man who put him behind bars in the first place - the district attorney who prosecuted him. He hatches a plan to have the man's daughter kidnapped and held hostage until his demands are met.

Elsewhere in the prison, inmates are dealing with their own personal demons and struggles. Beecher (Lee Tergesen) grapples with his drug addiction while Schillinger (J.K. Simmons) continues to torment him. Muslim inmate Said (Eamonn Walker) struggles to find his place in the prison's power structure and maintain his religious convictions.

As tensions continue to mount, the episode builds to a tense and shocking conclusion that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats. "God's Chillin'" is a gripping and intense episode that delves deep into the complex dynamics of life within a maximum-security prison, featuring powerful performances from its talented cast and expertly crafted storytelling.
