Pokemon the Series: Ruby & Sapphire Season 601 Episode 3 There's No Place Like Hoenn

Ash is all fired up for his first Hoenn region Gym battle in Petalburg City. At the Gym, he meets Max, a know-it-all kid who is pretending to be the Gym Leader. It turns out that Max is May's little brother, and their father, Norman, is the real Gym Leader! Ash doesn't have enough Pokemon for a Hoenn-style three-on-three battle, but Norman accepts his challenge for an unofficial match. Ash's Pikachu holds out well, but loses in the end to Norman's Vigoroth. Team Rocket attacks and swipes May's Torchic, and the whole family plus Ash sets out to find them. Our heroes beat Team Rocket, and even little Torchic chips in with Ember and Peck attacks. When Ash and May hit the road again, May's parents ask them to let Max come along, and Norman gives them a Pokemon Navigator (PokeNav) device to help them on their journey!
