Ep 35. A Tent Situation
- September 30, 1999
Ash, Misty, and Brock come across a small town that is unexpectedly busy. As they explore the town, they notice that people are preparing for a large festival celebrating the town's 100th anniversary. The festival is a huge event that only occurs once every 100 years, so the town is jam-packed with visitors and vendors who have come from all over the world.
As Ash, Misty, and Brock continue their exploration, they come across a small group of traveling performers who are setting up their tent. The performers call themselves the Poké Circus, and they invite the trio to attend their show. The group decides to check out the show, and they are amazed by the aerial acrobatics, fire juggling, and animal taming.
During the show, Ash notices that the trainers' Pokémon seem unhappy and stressed. He asks one of the trainers about it, and the trainer explains that the circus has been on the road for months and that the Pokémon are tired and homesick. Ash is concerned, and he decides to investigate further.
Later that night, Ash sneaks into the circus tent and discovers that the trainers are keeping the Pokémon in small cages and not providing them with enough food or water. Ash is outraged and decides to do something about it. He wakes up Misty and Brock and they come up with a plan to rescue the Pokémon.
The next day, as the circus is preparing for another show, Ash and his friends distract the trainers while Pikachu and the other Pokémon break out of their cages and run off into the nearby forest. The trainers realize what has happened and are furious.
As the group runs through the forest, they encounter a group of wild Pokémon who have also been mistreated by the performers. One of the wild Pokémon, a Nidoran, is injured and needs medical attention. Ash and his friends offer to help and they bring the Nidoran back to the town's Pokémon Center.
At the Pokémon Center, Ash explains to Nurse Joy what has happened and asks if she can help heal the Nidoran's injuries. Nurse Joy agrees and also offers to look after the other Pokémon that have been rescued from the circus.
As Ash and his friends leave the Pokémon Center, they are approached by the angry circus trainers. The trainers accuse Ash of stealing their Pokémon, and a heated argument ensues. Ash stands firm and explains that the Pokémon deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, and that they should be free to live their lives as they please.
The argument is interrupted by an announcement over the town's loudspeaker. The festival is about to begin, and everyone is invited to join in the celebrations. Ash, Misty, Brock, and the rescued Pokémon all join in the festivities, enjoying the food, music, and games.
As the day comes to an end, the trainers from the Poké Circus approach Ash and his friends. They apologize for their behavior and explain that they were overworked and stressed out from traveling for so long. They promise to treat their Pokémon better in the future and even offer to let Ash and his friends come and perform with them in the circus someday.
Ash and his friends forgive the trainers and agree to join them in the future. As the group says goodbye and prepares to leave the town, Ash reflects on the events of the day and smiles, knowing that he did the right thing by standing up for the Pokémon.
