Blunderbuss is the fifth episode of the first season of Portlandia, an American sketch comedy television series created by Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, and Jonathan Krisel. The show is known for its satirical take on the hipster culture and the unique oddities that make Portland, Oregon, a quirky city.

The episode revolves around the theme of miscommunication and how assumptions can lead to blunders. The opening sketch shows two couples at a fancy restaurant, attempting to order food, but they struggle to communicate with the non-native English speaking waiter, causing misunderstandings and confusion.

The subsequent sketch features Fred and Carrie attending a party at a friend's house, where they are introduced to a couple who seem to have everything going for them. However, the couple reveals that they are unable to conceive naturally and have been undergoing fertility treatments. The conversation takes an awkward turn as Fred and Carrie offer unsolicited advice on alternative methods of conception.

The episode continues with various sketches showcasing the miscommunications and blunders that can occur in everyday interactions. A particularly hilarious sketch featuring Fred and Carrie at a beach where they are unable to find a parking spot, leading them to create their own parking spot by miming a car and surrounding themselves with beach chairs.

In one sketch, Fred and Carrie play a couple who ask their neighbor to water their plants while they are out of town. The neighbor assumes that they are on a secret mission and undertakes to complete the mission in their absence. The results are disastrous, and the couple return to a house that has been completely transformed into a spy hub.

Another sketch takes us to a hipster music shop where a customer asks for a record by a particular artist, which the shop owner assumes is a code word for drugs. The exchange leads to a hilarious conversation, with the shop owner providing his best drug-selling tips before finally realizing his mistake.

The episode ends with a beautiful sketch featuring Fred playing a father teaching his son the importance of communication and not assuming things. The sketch is set in a forest where Fred shows his son the wonders of nature, teaching him to listen and communicate with the animals.

Overall, Blunderbuss is a funny and entertaining episode that showcases the comedic talents of Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. It highlights the quirks and idiosyncrasies of Portland culture and how common misunderstandings can lead to hilarious consequences. The sketches are well-written, and the comedic timing is spot on, making this a must-watch episode for fans of Portlandia.
