In Portlandia season 7, episode 4, titled "Separation Anxiety," we follow Fred and Carrie as they explore themes surrounding breakups, fighting couples, and even pet custody battles.

Throughout the episode, Fred and Carrie play different characters who are dealing with the aftermath of breakups, such as a couple who can't seem to stop fighting or a man who is heartbroken after his pet dog is taken away in a custody dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

One skit showcases a restaurant where all the patrons are recently broken up couples trying to work out their differences over a meal. The restaurant is equipped with a "Breakup Booth," where couples can get closure and say their final goodbyes. Another skit features a couple who are splitting up their joint CD collection, but can't agree on who deserves what CDs, leading to an all-out vinyl brawl.

As always, the episode is filled with quirky and over-the-top humor that pokes fun at modern relationships and their complexities. The situations are exaggerated and absurd, but at the same time, they touch on very real struggles that many people go through during a breakup.

One thing is for sure, in "Separation Anxiety," Fred and Carrie certainly don't shy away from showcasing the awkward and uncomfortable aspects of relationships, but they manage to do so in a lighthearted and relatable way. So, grab a tissue (or a vinyl record), and get ready for a hilarious exploration of heartbreak in Portlandia.
